The mission of this Tax department is to be viewed as a ‘trusted business advisor’ within the Company. Paramount to achieving this mission is having the right resources in place that bring a customer service approach and business centric view to providing tax advice. As a member of the Direct Tax group, the Tax Analyst position is responsible for preparing tax returns and providing on-going support for any related reporting issues throughout the year. This position assists the Direct Tax Supervisor in completion of tax compliance, tax accounting, special projects and audit/controversy projects.
Main accountabilities
- Preparation of the federal and state corporate income tax returns
- Assist with developing audit ready files to support current year returns; provide IRS/State audit assistance as needed
- Assist in the tax reporting process
- Assist in the preparation of the US income tax provision. This involves both the recurring calculations and non-recurring calculations (ex: tax reserve calculations, divestitures, acquisitions, audit settlements, etc.).
- Ensure adherence to department policies regarding managing, updating, and ensuring the tax accounting procedures are compliance with required internal controls
- Prepare various special computations and support tax planning initiatives
- Manage annual reports and Gross Receipts Tax filings.
Performance measures
- All direct tax returns are timely and accurately filed.
- Ensure that all direct tax payments are made timely and accurately.
- Ensure that tax account reconciliations are timely and accurately prepared.
Legislative requirements

- Adhere to all defined local environmental laws, regulations and permit requirements.
Skills and experience required
- Experience in tax compliance and accounting experience
- Experience with OneSource Tax Compliance and Tax Provision tools
- Experience with using Microsoft Excel and Word
- ERP experience (SAP preferred)
Financial competencies
- Understanding of US GAAP and IFRS Accounting
- Risk & Control Orientation – Understands the importance of control excellence and continuous improvement as a fundamental underpin
- Commercially Led - Supports the business to deliver its commercial objectives through the effective provision of tax services
Qualifications
- BS Finance or accountancy, or similar qualification
- CPA preferred

- Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to convey complex concepts in a clear and structured manner
- Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines, in an environment that is fast paced and demanding
- A strong team player with the confidence and ability to work autonomously and make decisions
This role is primarily home based but candidates are required to be in the Chicagoland area, as there will some in-office time required, especially during YE and tax deadlines.
