Wespath Benefits and Investments, recognized as one of “Chicago’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For®” in 2017 and 2018, has an opportunity for an Investment Operations and Accounting Manager to lead the general accounting function for investments. This includes managing the day-to-day interactions with our custodians and overseeing the updating and reconciliation of general ledger accounts for investment activity. The manager is responsible for directing the analysis of investment manager activity and the subsequent recording in the general ledger and for implementing appropriate control procedures to assure accurate and timely capture of all investment transactions.
More specifically, the Investment Operations and Accounting Manager will have the opportunity to:
Manage the day-to-day activities of investment accounting including, but not limited to, monthly closings, preparation of financial statements, cash management, and compliance with policies, procedures and controls
Coordinate all activities related to the daily pricing of Wespath’s unitized funds
Serve as primary liaison in managing day-to-day interactions and operational interfaces with custodian bank (BNY Mellon) and the Investments Department
Coordinate with custodian and Investment Management Department to investigate securities pricing errors and find pricing issues
Ensure timely investigation/correction to custodian’s records if reconciliations identify discrepancies between custodian and asset managers
Prepare audit schedules and coordinates audit information required by the internal/external auditors with regards to all investment performance, including financial analysis information and roll forward schedules required for Wespath’s Alternative Investments
Manage SEC reporting (i.e. Form 13F-NT) and other regulatory reporting compliance (i.e. BE 180 Benchmark Survey)
Manage FASB compliance for investments including analysis of new pronouncements, determination of the impact, if any, on the organization, and drafting new footnote disclosure text as required
Coordinate/review the monthly preparation and analysis of investment related expenses including investment management fees, custody fees, and investment related miscellaneous expenses
Participate in the implementation of pricing models, coordinating the establishment of new funds, and the enhancement of information available from participant systems
Assemble, prepare, and provide documentary financial data support for the footnote disclosures related to investment activities in Wespath’s Annual Report
Prepare and analyze daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports regarding investment performance across all investment asset classes
Develop direct report employees through active coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics or related discipline or equivalent work experience
10 years of experience in investment accounting
2 years of supervisory experience
CPA, CFA designation
Budgeting and forecasting experience
